Beth-shemesh. A town 15 (24 ) west-southwest of Jerusalem. Jehoash did not wait for the attack, but sent his forces south, evidently intending to approach Jerusalem from the west by the ancient highway passing through the Valley of Sorek. This is the route now followed by the railroad from Jaffa to Jerusalem. The site of Beth-shemesh, now Tell er-Rumeileh, was excavated in 1928-1933.
